Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai celebrated Oral Hygiene Day on 1st August 2024 to commemorate birth anniversary of Dr. G. B. Shankhavalkar ( founder of Indian Society of Periodontology, Ex-dean, GDCH Mumbai) under the leadership and guidance of Dr Wasundhara Bhad ,Dean and
Dr. Dimple Padawe, Head Department of Pedodontia and Acting Dean Govt Dental College and Hospital Mumbai.
Deartment of Periodontology organised rally focusing on oral hygiene awareness amongst the masses which was inaugurated by Shri Rajiv Nivatkar (Commissioner, medical education and Ayush) and Dr. Vivek Pakhmode (Joint director DMER).Hosted by Dr Mamita Kamble and Dr Sylvia post graduate students of Department of Periodontology .
Followed by a skit performance enacting the importance on organ donation and oral health awareness. The Rally was marched from college to Nagar Chowk with posters, banners . Street play was performed by students of GDC&H Mumbai near CSMT Station. Thousands of commuters were benefitted from it.
In the afternoon session, lecture was taken on “relation of poor oral hygiene and oral cancer” by eminent oncologist Dr. Hitesh Singhvi working as consultant head and neck surgeon at Fortis hospital, Mumbai was attended by Teaching staff , interns and students.
Afternoon session was hosted by Dr Sushrusha Shirsat and Dr Harshada post graduate students of Department of Periodontology,
Dr Rajesh Gaikwad Head , Department of Periodontology, and Teaching Staff Dr Akshaya Banodkar Dr Gulnar Sethna , Dr Nilofer Attar, Dr Chitra Patil , Dr Amrita Batho , Dr Sangita Barot and post graduate students of Department of Periodontology coordinated and executed event successfully.
