Under the guidance of dynamic Dean National Oral Pathology Day was celebrated on 25th February 2026, as declared by the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists, at the Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai.
The celebration was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. H. M. Dholakia, regarded as the Father of Oral Pathology in India, and to promote academic excellence, creativity, and awareness regarding the importance of Oral Pathology in diagnosis, research, and patient care.
The programme included a series of academic and creative activities conducted with enthusiastic participation from undergraduate students, postgraduate students, interns, and faculty members.
The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. J. V. Tupkari, who addressed the gathering and shared his valuable insights on the significance of Oral Pathology in clinical practice and research. His motivating words inspired students to pursue excellence and contribute meaningfully to the specialty.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Vivek Pakhmode, also addressed the audience and emphasized the evolving scope of Oral Pathology and the importance of dedication, research, and continual learning in the profession. Pakhmode Sir authored and released his book named “Paleo Dentistry”.
The academic session included a Guest Lecture delivered by Dr. Saurabh Nagar, who highlighted recent advancements and the evolving role of oral pathologists in modern diagnostics and research. The lecture enriched students academically and provided insights into current trends in the specialty.
An academic Quiz Competition was organized covering topics related to oral pathology, oral microbiology, and recent developments in the field, encouraging critical thinking and healthy academic interaction among students.
Creative competitions such as Doodling, Carving, and Slogan Writing were also conducted. The doodling competition focused on artistic representation of oral health awareness and pathological concepts. The carving competition enhanced manual dexterity and understanding of anatomical and pathological structures. The slogan competition emphasized oral cancer awareness, early diagnosis, and preventive strategies.
Winning certificates were awarded to the top performers in each competition, and participation certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their active involvement.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship gathering and a small lunch arranged for postgraduate students and staff members, fostering unity and strengthening departmental bonds.
The event successfully fulfilled its objective of promoting awareness about Oral Pathology, encouraging academic enrichment, and inspiring students toward excellence in the field
