Academic activities: Third and Final year B.D.S students learn in the department about gingival and periodontal diagnosis and treatment planning. Interns treat patients by scaling and root planning under the guidance of teaching staff. Postgraduate students perform periodontal surgical procedures and continue research under the guidance of guides. Tutorials, clinical demonstrations, lectures, and seminars are taken throughout the year to upgrade the clinical skills and knowledge of students.
Clinical activities: The Department is equipped with 46 dental chairs for undergraduate and postgraduate dental clinics. The outpatient department receives an average of 100 patients daily. The various treatments undertaken are scaling and root planing, abscess drainage, periodontal flap surgery, regenerative bone graft surgery, root coverage surgery, gingivectomy, crown lengthening procedure, pericoronal flap surgery, depigmentation, splinting and dental implants. Treatment is done by surgical, electrocautery, and lasers.

Dental hygienist diploma course
First floor Room No.133 of GDCH Building
The department has a yearly intake of 10 dental hygienist students. This course is of a two-year duration. First-year students have subjects of Anatomy general/dental, Physiology & histology, General &dental, Pharmacology(general & dental), Pathology & Microbiology, Dental radiology, Food & Nutrition, Dental hygiene & oral prophylaxis, and Basic knowledge of computers. Second-year students have subjects of Dental health education, Community public health dentistry, Preventive dentistry, Dental Ethics & Jurisprudence, orientation in dentistry, and Dental Materials.
- Preparation of models of jaws and teeth-Normal and pathological dental conditions
- Designing, drawing and painting of posters on dental health education
- Arranging short talks, skits and features on dental and oral health, visual aids
- Collection of oral health related statistics by conducting a small survey of an area.
- Creating awareness of dental hygiene by participating in various dental camps,
- Active participation in oral Hygiene day celebrations
